Who is a student with special needs?

Who is considered a person with special needs (SN)

A person with special needs refers to applicants or students who, due to a health condition, require some form of support in order to fully realize their academic potential.

Simply put: if you were identified as a student with special educational needs in elementary or high school, you are likely eligible for support measures while studying at the University of West Bohemia—provided you request them yourself.

Support measures and services are available to prospective and current students:

  • with physical, visual, or hearing impairments,
  • with specific learning disabilities,
  • with autism spectrum disorder,
  • with mental health conditions or other challenges (e.g., communication disorders or chronic illnesses),

who register at the UWB Counseling Centre and undergo a so-called functional assessment. This will help determine how their current health condition affects their studies and what measures could be most helpful.
