University facilities

University library

Every UWB student who has a JIS card can use the services of all professional libraries and study rooms of the University Library of the UWB. The library also includes the UWB University Press and the copy centre in the Bory campus.

You can tell how long you are borrowing the book for by the label:

overnight borrowing

(the book must be returned by 9 a.m. on the next working day)

1-week borrowing

2-week borrowing

You can borrow a book without a label for a maximum of 1 month / 1 semester.

UWB University Press

The UWB University Press offers students and the general public over 300 professional publications, teaching texts, and scripts of the UWB staff for purchase. These can be purchased either in the script shops or online via the university e-shop. There are also dozens of promotional items on offer – university T-shirts, backpacks, pens, notebooks, thermo mugs, etc.

Links related to the library, the university e-shop, and all their services provided can be found on our Useful Links page in the University Library section.

Centre for Information Technology (CIV)
About CIV

The CIV department operates and develops information technology at the university campus. It also issues the JIS student ID card and manages the Helpdesk, where you can find any news or information about outages.

The CIV headquarters is in the University complex at Borská pole: enter through the main entrance, turn right and keep going straight until you pass through the glass tunnel – then you are at the Information and Counselling Centre (ICC), marked UI. Here you will also find the public computer rooms or the aforementioned HelpDesk.

The CIV can also help you if you have problems with your Orion account, UWB Portal, Courseware, IS/STAG or JIS card, which we write more about on the Newcomer’s Guide page.

Wi-fi connection

The university provides both wired and wireless connection to the eduroam network or wireless connection to the zcu-mobile network. Connection within the so-called eduroam federation has the advantage that it is protected and allows each user to connect in other member organisations, both in the Czech Republic and worldwide.

Connecting to the zcu-mobile wireless network is recommended only as a last resort; the zcu-mobile network is not secure.

For all useful links regarding Wi-Fi connectivity or Helpdesk contacts, please visit the Useful Links page, section Access and Passwords.

UWB dormitories

Like other European universities, the University of West Bohemia provides its students with accommodation in dormitories. The dormitories are run by the Administration of Dormitories and Canteens (SMK).

Other accommodation options

Not interested in dorm accommodation, or not allocated a place in a dorm? Czech Facebook groups about Housing in Pilsen or real estate websites can help. The disadvantage is the deposit, which you usually have to pay with your first lease.

All links to the necessary documents or a list of dormitories can be found on the Useful Links page in the Accommodation section.
